Charlelie Couture : Poèmes rock ( 1981)

Croyez-moi sur parole : j’ai découvert Charlelie Couture il y a moins d’un an ! Cela peut paraître invraisemblable d’être passé à côté mais c’est la vérité. C’est comme ne jamais avoir vu un grand classique du cinéma français : personne ne vous croit ! Et bien si, je n’avais jamais écouté un morceau du nancéien, pas même son tube «  comme un avion sans aile » . Quand je mis mon diamant sur la face A de Poèmes rock,  je fus comme …. Qui découvrit la tombe de Toutankhamon,! Quelle claque ! ça méritait une critique de ma part ! ça, c’est le rock français que j’aime ! prendre le meilleur du rock américain ( le blues !) et y mettre de la poésie. 11 chansons, 11 (ou plutôt 10) Chroniques urbaines, poisseuses de nos vies au programme. Comme  d’autres réussites du rock français, la production est laissé à un anglophone à savoir Michael Zilhka ( Kid Creole, Alan Vega), fondateur du label ZE Record, qui va trouver le parfait dosage pour rendre les compositions irrésistibles. Car oui, Poèmes Rock, contrairement aux albums aujourd’hui n’a aucun trou d’air ! Rien n’est à jeter ! La voix plaintive et quelque peu maniérée de Charlelie Couture ( qui fera sa marque de fabrique) chante la grisaille quotidienne avec un phrasé déjanté ( faut suivre !) .  On sait dès le premier morceau (l’inquiétant « la ballade de Serge K » et ses riffs assassins) que nos oreilles vont déguster une musique attachante, à la fois sombre, mélancolique et envoûtante. Son  blues peut être tantôt efficace avec les guitares en avant (« oublier » ), tantôt fatigué (« Tu m’as pas dit d’où tu venais »), tantôt aérien ( « comme si on y croyait »), tantôt habile ( «  envie de l’eau »). A côté de ça, on retrouve quelques exercices de style : le minimalisme («T’en va plus t’en va pas ») le jazz (« L’histoire du loup dans la bergerie »)  ; le tube ( « Comme un avion sans aile »). L’album se termine comme il a commencé avec le très rock «  le fauteuil en cuir ( combien de temps) ». Bref depuis, Poèmes rock est dans ma peau ! Couture empruntera ensuite d’autres voies que celles du rock tout en gardant son authenticité, loin  des radars. Avec Bashung et Thiéfaine, il aura su montrer que le rock français avait voix au chapitre.

Christophe : Samouraï ( 1976)

Ce 16 avril 2020 le monde de la chanson française a perdu bien plus qu’un ses représentants mais tout simplement l’un ses points cardinaux. En effet Christophe incarnait une certaine idée de la pop à la française, entre sensibilité et mélancolie, entre dandysme et mystère. Preuve en est que beaucoup d’artistes le prennent pour influence. Cet artiste à part a connu des hauts et des bas, avec des périodes musicales bien distinctes. Celle qui m’a toujours le plus fasciné fut celle post-yéyé, notamment avec Samouraï aussi méconnu que grandiose. Christophe, sorti des radars, creusait son sillon sans  malheureusement rencontrer son public. D’une durée de  29 minutes, Ce disque est certes court mais en dit long ! En 8 titres, accompagné par le groupe Bahamas il nous propose une pop rock de haute facture sous l’influence des artistes emblématiques de  la scène rock des seventies ( le progressif, le glam, rock), notamment de John Lennon (« merci John d’être venu ») . Il leur rendra un hommage appuyé en les citant tous dans «  tant pis si j’en oublie » ( n’est-ce pas Stephen Stills ?) Les textes des chansons écrits en collaboration avec Boris Bergman ( futur parolier de Bashung) gravitent, eux, toujours autour des thèmes de prédilection de Christophe :  l’amour, nos vies, le déchirement, la fureur et la nostalgie. La poignante chanson-titre sorti en simple  est d’un grand cru. La suite en 3 actes ( «  pour que nos vies soient moins moches») est une envolée atmosphérique, nappée de synthétiseurs et de riffs de guitares assassines qui n’est pas sans rappeler Pink Floyd. Cet album véritable trait d’union entre les mots bleus et le beau bizarre a pour moi une place particulière car c’est celui où Christophe est le plus touchant. Véritable échec commercial à sa sortie Samouraï était en avance sur son temps et attendra longtemps sa réhabilitation : au contraire de sa chanson, il ne fut pas oublié.
